Workwear Store San Francisco
In 1972, Bill Litchfield, a San Francisco native and graduate of Lincoln High School, bought an army navy surplus store on Mission Street at the corner of Geneva in San Francisco’s Excelsior district. He would name the business Acme Army Navy Surplus Store. Over the years, Bill and his brother Ken carried a variety of army navy surplus items including fatigues, bomber jackets, and a variety of camouflage clothing. There was even a point when the business delved into the world of camping gear and sporting goods. In fact, we carried the original Nike Air Jordan shoe!
In the early 80s, a workwear brand named Carhartt had a small selection of work clothing, and their sales representative stopped by our business and suggested that we give their items a shot. So, we took a chance and started carrying the B01 (their first work pant), the J01 (Their first work jacket, also known as the Detroit) and the R01 (their first work overall). About this time, San Francisco started to experience a construction boom to support the influx of people moving to the Bay Area. So, we had to evolve our business to meet the suddenly changing needs of the city and increased our line to include Ben Davis, Dickies, Thorogood, Timberland Pro, and many others.
Today, we have 20+ work clothing and accessory brands to supplement the 130 styles of work boots we carry.
As Bill spends a little less time at the business he founded, his son Chris and their incredible staff will strive to continue the family tradition of servicing the Bay Area by providing the latest in high-quality work gear for the tradesman and beyond. Come on in and see for yourself.
